STEM can lead the way! We are living in dynamic times. Technological advances have changed our world and education is shifting to meet the challenge. The changes in education are huge with both the redesign in funding (LCFF) and standards (CCSS and NGSS).

I am the Chief Education Officer for California STEM Learning Network (CSLNet). Our mission is to prepare California students to be the nation’s most STEM capable graduates, by coordinating and activating a statewide network representing all STEM stakeholders.

I am most excited by our recent report, STEM Can Lead the Way: Rethinking Teacher Preparation and Policy. Research is clear. Great teachers make all the difference. The question is, how do we produce and support great teachers? CSLNet commissioned interviews with 30 experts in STEM education and teacher preparation and produced a written synthesis of their views on barriers, opportunities and promising practices.

I am credentialed teacher and administrator with twenty years of experience in public education. Prior to joining CSLNet I was a director at Ventura County Office of Education. I hold a doctorate in educational leadership from California Lutheran University.
